Site Help and some Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to some frequent questions about using the site. If these don't answer your question or you're still having problems then either email guru@psychexchange.co.uk or send a message through the Private Messaging System (you'll need to be logged in to do this).

I've forgotten my password.

If you've forgotten your password then all you have to do is click the link below and enter your email address. We will then send an email containing your password out to you. http://www.psychexchange.co.uk/scripts/password.php

I don't use my old email account any more.

If you have changed your email address then it's easy to update your profile. First you need to login to the site. Once you've logged in go to the "My Profile" link in the top bar. When you're there you will see a box in the side bar called "Profile Tools" and one of the options is "Change Email Address".

I want to change my password

If you want to change your password you can update your password in the "My Profile" section of the site by clicking on the "Change Password" link.

Stop sending me emails

We don't want to annoy you by sending you emails all the time. If you don't want to get any more emails from us you can update your email preferences in the "My Profile" section of the site by clicking on the "Change Email Preferences" link.

Why do you keep asking me to confirm my password?

We are doing this to prevent spam comments and resources on the site and make PsychExchange.co.uk a safer place to share and exchange resources, ideas and inspiration. If you don't confirm your account then we will suspend access to the resources until you have confirmed it.

The YouTube videos aren't showing up

If you are accessing PsychExchange.co.uk from a school, college or other institution you may find that you can't see the videos on the site. Unfortunately this probably means that your IT people are blocking your access to YouTube and other video hosting sites. They may feel that they are in the right but it means that you aren't able to use the excellent resources that are on the site.

If you are in this position all we can advise is that you speak to those in charge of your computer network and plead that they allow you access. If the answer is No! then you have one other option.

You could use a site like Zamzar.com to download the resource when you are on a computer at home or somewhere that allows you to get to YouTube. You can then save the file to a pen drive and take that with you or if you're feeling creative embed it into your PowerPoint presentations.

I don't have PowerPoint or Word on my computer

If you don't have PowerPoint or Work on your computer at home then you have a few options so that you can see and edit the excellent resources we have here on PsychExchange.co.uk.

Microsoft's PowerPoint Viewer: Microsoft have a PowerPoint viewer that you can download for free and install so that you can open and view any PowerPoint file. This will only allow you to view the file though not edit it.

You can install a free office suite called Open Office which contains a editor like Word, a presentation maker like PowerPoint and an Excel spreadsheet-type-thing too. It's a fantastic piece of software that we use a lot. Find out more on the Open Office Website.
