Like many of us, I am a one-person Psychology department, now part-time, and teach AS and A2 Psychology, AQA (A) in a small sixth form in a school. I have previously also taught GCSE Psychology. I have taught in both state and independent sectors, both of which have very different challenges and rewards. A few years ago I did an MA in Effective Learning at the IoE, which completely changed the way I teach and was fascinating. It wasn't in the least bit 'gimmicky' and is backed up by sound evidence.
I am passionate about Psychology, and about learning. Like many of us, the misperception of Psychology as a noddy subject really gets me down, and all of the implications of this, especially since (as we all know) Psychology isn't in the least bit noddy.
I am a huge music fan, film goer and reader and seek out any excuse to bring these into my lessons! I have been very lucky over the years to find that my love for Psychology, and my enthusiasm, have seemed to rub off on many of my students, and they also end up saying "It's sooooo exciting!". That makes it all worthwhile.
