Mark Holah's Wall

james watton said Mark is it possible to upload mark schemes onto this website? I have the new OCR one and it seems i cannot see email addresses to send individually

Mark Holah said Hi Tom - you can. Just upload them as misc files. Look forward to having a look at them.

Tom H said hi mark can we upload smartboard presentations? Just made some good random topic ones for g543, might be useful. Tom

Monkeyking92 said Thanks for considering the needs of Students. I understand myself and many others have most probably stressed this a lot. You deserve to own your own examination board :)

kim higgins said Thanks for upgrading me ;)

jacky blanchard said Mark help help help - have you seen the G541 paper today - is it me or should we be outraged! All that work you do with students and then the examiners change the structure and format - what is the point of mark schemes - what is the point of assessment for learning? Surely in January at AS students should not be expexcted to evaluate reliability and validity alone for 10 marks - last year they had to do that at A2 for not much more? If you agree that this paper is outrageous please let me know what we can do - if you do not agree then I think I am going to have to change from OCR to AQA as I cannot stand this deliberate trying to trick students and floor the teachers - all it does it let students lose confidence in their teachers when we try and direct them towards possible questions and prepare them appropriately. Help...........

Mark Holah said Hi Jacky - I am now replying to your pm in box. Check out your personal messages. Cheers Mark

jacky blanchard said PS anyone else reading this wall please can you give examples of how you would answer these changes and effects on data questions - all ideas gratefully received xx

jacky blanchard said Mark can you answer a question for me?? If a question says suggest one improvement tp say an observation study and then say how this improvement would effect the data. If a student says one improvement to my study would be to use more than one observer. I can then collect the data from all the observers and if if ti correlates I know my data will be more reliable. Is this incorrect - do they actually have to say what actual effect there will be on the data eg: more people may be observed dong X because there are more observers or something??? Can you explain what is meant by 'effect on the data' in these types of question?? Many many thanks Jacky Blanchard

I teach psychology to lots of students and sometimes I can be heard complaining about this.  Teaching psychology though is a really fab job.  So much to discuss, argue, apply, analyse and evaluate with students – just brilliant.  A good career choice for me.  One of my better decisions I suppose.  Certainly better than choosing Hull City as my football team to support.

Still (just) teaching the OCR specs and doing useful websites (with Jamie) like this one.  Hopefully you are finding this site www.psychexchange.co.uk  useful and if your students are studying OCR AS psychology they may find my site holah.co.uk useful too.  I am working on finishing the AS site and adding an A2 area too.

Oh and please join Psychexchange Plus  - its 15 quid and worth it.   And it keeps all of this web site stuff working. Thanks.

By Mark Holah on 1/11/09 - 0 Comments

The competition to win the Loftus Speaks DVD is now closed and Katie was randomly chosen to win the DVD from 299 correct entries.  Enjoy the DVD Katie. The correct answer to the question "Which other very famous psychologist has a 'Speaks DVD' which can be bought from Uniview?" was Zimbardo.  Our favourite wrong answers were Jordan, Katie Price, Holah, Loftus, Eysenck and Harry Hill.  We also received some very poor spellings of Zimbardo such as Zimbo and Zamzimzo. We did accept
